Local customs & good to know
- Evening Passeggiata Tradition — Join locals for the traditional evening stroll along the waterfront after 8 PM, when the entire town takes a leisurely walk and socializes.
- Respect Ferry Schedules — If visiting nearby islands, confirm ferry times in advance as schedules vary seasonally and weather-dependent service to Paxos and Antipaxos is common.
- Taverna Dining Customs — It is customary to ask the proprietor what fish was caught that day rather than reading a menu, and tipping 5–10 percent is appreciated though not obligatory.
- Siesta Respect — Many shops and services close between 2 and 5 PM for the afternoon siesta; plan major activities in the morning or after 5 PM.
