Getting there & around
The nearest major airport is Riga International, about an hour's drive from Sigulda. Regular trains and buses run from Riga to Sigulda, Cēsis and Valmiera along the Gauja valley, making the region accessible without a car. However, renting a car is the most practical way to reach spread-out sights like Gaiziņkalns and the Vidzeme Rocky Seashore.
How long to stay
Three to four days lets you cover the main highlights of Sigulda, Cēsis and Gauja National Park at a relaxed pace. Add a day or two if you want extended hiking or to reach the Baltic coast.
When to go
Late spring (May–June) brings green river valleys and mild hiking weather, while September and early October offer spectacular autumn foliage in Gauja National Park. Summer (July–August) is warmest and busiest; winter is cold and many outdoor attractions have reduced hours.
