There is no airport in the region; the nearest usable airports are Palanga (about 70 km west) and Kaunas or Vilnius further inland, all requiring onward driving. Trains and intercity buses connect Telšiai with Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda, but services are limited, so renting a car is by far the most practical way to reach and explore the area. Roads are good and distances short, making self-driving ideal for visiting scattered lakes, villages and the national park.

When to go
