Mocănița Vaser

A narrow-gauge steam-powered forestry railway (Mocănița) that winds through the wild, forested Vaser Valley from Vișeu de Sus. The nostalgic ride through pristine mountain scenery is one of Europe's last working steam logging lines.

• Respect the working forestry line — This is a genuine logging railway, not just a tourist attraction, so follow crew instructions and keep clear of the locomotive and tracks.
• Cash is handy at the stops — Vendors at Paltin and other halts often prefer Romanian lei in cash for food and drinks.
