Conero Riviera
Riviera del Conero
The Conero Riviera is a stretch of dramatic white-cliff coastline south of Ancona, protected as a regional nature park. Its crystal-clear waters and secluded pebble beaches make it the most scenic coast in Marche.
Things to do
- Swim at Due Sorelle beach — Two iconic white sea stacks guard this secluded beach, accessible only by boat or a long hike.
- Hike Monte Conero — Trails through pine and oak forest lead to cliff-top viewpoints over the Adriatic.
- Explore Sirolo village — This charming clifftop village has great restaurants and views over the sea.
- Kayak along the cliffs — Sea kayaking lets you discover sea caves and hidden coves inaccessible on foot.
- Wine tasting at Conero wineries — The park produces excellent Rosso Conero DOC wine — many estates offer tastings.
Food to try
- Moscioli di Portonovo — Wild mussels from Portonovo bay, a local delicacy best eaten fresh at beachside restaurants.
- Rosso Conero wine — A bold red DOC wine made from Montepulciano grapes grown on the Conero slopes.
- Grilled fresh Adriatic fish — Local restaurants along the riviera grill the catch of the day simply with olive oil and lemon.
- Brodetto di pesce — Each coastal town has its own version of this hearty Adriatic fish stew.
